May 10, 2011 - City Council Memorandum —
Solander Center Exterior Building Improvements Bid No. 6935, Contract Award
improvements to the WIC Offices include new flooring, carpet and vinyl tile, removing a non - bearing
wall, and adding an exterior door. These improvements have already been accomplished under
separate bid.
The exterior work includes improving the facade of the building to more closely match the existing
structures within the park. This work includes installing cement board and resurfacing it with a
textured coating that not only resembles stucco but is also a recognized "cool wall' coating. The
existing windows will be replaced with new low "E" glazing. Safety rails will be installed around the
existing HVAC units to protect public access and a new staircase will be cut -into the center section
of the existing elevated walkway to better define the main entrance to the facility. Although our
roofing consultant determined that a full roof replacement was not necessary at this time we will be
performing selective preventive maintenance work on the roof in several areas.
Nine (9) contractors submitted proposals when bids closed on March 24, 2011. New Millennium
Construction of Chino Hills was determined the lowest responsible bidder at a cost of $55,999.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The $55,999 cost of this project is funded by a federal grant and funds are available in account
number 9227651- 440120.
Prepared by: Kris Martinez, General Services Director
Approved by: Belinda J.
