City Council Memorandum <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: MAY 10, 2011 <br />FROM: GENERAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 23 <br />WARD: 6 <br />SUBJECT AWARD OF BID NO. 6935 FOR EXTERIOR BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS <br />AT THE ERIC M. SOLANDER YOUTH AND FAMILY RESOURCE <br />CENTER <br />ISSUE: <br />The issue before the City Council is whether to award Bid No. 6935 for exterior building <br />improvements at the Eric M. Solander Youth and Family Resource Center. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />That the City Council: <br />1. Award an agreement for Bid No. 6935 to New Millennium Construction of Chino Hills, <br />California, for construction of the Exterior Building Improvements at the Solander Center, <br />in the amount of $55,999. <br />2. Authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to prepare and execute all necessary <br />documents. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Eric M. Solander Youth and Family Resource Center (Center) was completed in September, <br />2004. The Center is located within Bryant Park and several partners provide programming to the <br />community. The Riverside County Department of Health's Women with Infant Children (WIC) office <br />is a current occupant of the Center and manages a child care program capable of accommodating <br />forty -eight children. <br />In 2005, the Parks and Recreation Department (Parks) applied for an Economic Development <br />Initiative grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for future <br />maintenance and /or improvements to the facility. In 2006, Parks was awarded $198,400 for facility <br />maintenance and improvements. <br />The grant provides funding for both interior and exterior improvements. Recent interior <br />23 -1 <br />
