The Public Works Department Sewer Division has integrated the various
existing wastewater collection system programs into a comprehensive SSMP document. The
SSMP describes 11 key elements to ensure compliance with the regulatory requirements.
All program enrollees, including the City, are required to obtain their governing board's approval of
the SSMP at a public meeting. The City is not required to send the approved SSMP to the State or
Regional Water Boards for review or approval; however, the documents must be available for
review upon request. The City is required to certify that the final SSMP is in compliance with the
Sanitary Sewer Order. This certification will be completed electronically by the Sewer Division upon
approval of the SSMP document. SSMP elements and highlights are contained in Exhibit 1.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with the adoption of the SSMP and resolution. Costs
associated with related Sewer Division operations are included in the FY 2009 -10 Public Works
Department budget.
Prepared by: Siobhan Foster, Director of Public Works
Certified as to availability
of funds: Paul C.
