State of the City
January 26, 2006

Ronald O. Loveridge, Mayor
City of Riverside, California

FROM SUCCESS TO SIGNIFICANCE .!~-~,N :~ (:
WELCOME ;ITY EP ('e

Thank you Cindy Roth for hosting this 29th State of the City. Kudos also for the great work
of the Chamber.

To the voters of Riverside, thank you for your support and trust. I am honored by the
election results. They represent the verdicts of friends and neighbors across this City.

Congratulations to Nancy Hart and Frank Schiavone for their reelection to the City Council.
Welcome and congratulations to Andy Melendrez for his election in Ward Two.

I want especially to salute my colleague Ameal Moore, for he is a good and decent man
who has committed his civic life to making Riverside a better place.

I must also extend a personal and heartfelt thank you to my wife Marsha, my partner for
over 44 years. In political campaigns, spouses receive the pain, while candidates receive
whatever the gain. Marsha, you are a beautiful, wonderful woman, and I love you!

As Mayor, I pledge to continue my leadership for civility, inclusiveness, and best practices.

I also pledge to continue my two signature ways to connect with the community: Mayor's
Night Out (numbering over 110) and Business Visits (numbering over 300).

Most of all, I pledge to make significant differences in the destiny of Riverside. This is why I
serve...this is why I ran for a fourth term.

Riverside Firefighter Ed Turan's challenge for fire fighters is my call for all us in 2006: "Go
hard or go home!"

The Preface to the General Plan says we are on the "cusp of greatness." Now is the time to
step up, to join together, to forge a destiny of greatness for Riverside.
