RECOMMENDATIONS: That the City Council: 1. Approve the acceptance of grant funding in the amount of $29,732.28 from the 2021 Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program from the Bureau of Justice Assistance for the period of April 1, 2021 through August 31, 2023; 2. With at least five affirmative votes, and upon receipt of the grant award, authorize the Chief Financial Officer, or designee, to record an increase in estimated revenues and appropriate expenditures in the amount of the grant award in the Grants and Restricted Programs Fund, for the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program; and 3. Authorize the City Manager, or designee, to execute all necessary grant documents for the Bureau of Justice Assistance, 2021 Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program, including making minor and non -substantive changes. BACKGROUND: The Bulletproof Vest Partnership Act of 1998, reauthorized in 2000, is an initiative designed to provide critical resources to state and local law enforcement. The purpose of the Act is to save the lives of law enforcement officers by helping states and units of local government and tribal governments to equip their law enforcement officers with armored vests. The City of Riverside has received this award multiple times since 1999, including $5,849.07 in 2020.
