FOR VARIOUS TYPES OF POLICE DEPARTMENT AUTHORIZED AMMUNITION FOR DEPARTMENT ISSUED HANDGUNS AND PATROL RIFLES IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $185,537.30 FOR FISCAL YEAR 2022-23 ISSUE: Approve a purchase order with Dooley Enterprise, Inc., of Anaheim, California, for the purchase of various types of duty and training Police Department authorized ammunition for Department issued handguns and patrol rifles in the amount of $185,537.30 for Fiscal Year 2022/23. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council approve a purchase order with Dooley Enterprise, Inc., of Anaheim, California, for the purchase of various types of duty and training Police Department authorized ammunition for Department issued handguns and patrol rifles in the amount of $185,537.30 for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022/23. BACKGROUND: The Riverside Police Department equips its officers with firearms to address the risks posed to the public and Department members by violent and sometimes well -armed persons. Officers may only use firearms and ammunition that meet agency authorized specifications, approved by the Chief of Police. All officers are required to train bi-monthly with their duty weapon and annually with their off-duty weapon and secondary weapon on an approved range course. In addition to regular training schedules, officers complete annual practical training designed to simulate field situations and quarterly training and qualification for patrol rifles. DISCUSSION: The Police Department will need to purchase additional ammunition from Dooley Enterprise, Inc for training and duty rounds. The proposed purchase amount is based on the estimated use outlined in the following table and is anticipated to supply the Department with handgun and patrol rifle ammunition for all of FY 2022/23.
