2. ARBOR DAY FESTIVITIES <br />Attending: Terri Thompson, John Tavaglione, Laura <br />Pearson, Deen Teer, Terry Nielsen, Mayor <br />Frizzel <br />Terry Nielsen presented a plan to buy trees to plant at <br />schools on Arbor Day. Seven schools are already signed up; he <br />wants to get nine more to participate in the program. <br />Parks and Recreation is applying for a $40,000 grant to plant <br />667 trees in public rights-of-way. <br />ACTION: <br />Terry will draft a report to the full Council. <br />3. YSMAEL VILLEGAS STATUE <br />Attending: Terri Thompson, John Tavaglione, Laura <br />Pearson, Deen Teer, Mike Figueroa, Mayor <br />Frizzel <br />Mike Figueroa reported that approval is needed to build a base <br />for the statue. The design has been approved; the next step <br />is approval to install the base, which has to be built on- <br />site. <br />$11,000 has been collected for the project, but the total <br />funding needed is $60,000. Villegas' family has been in <br />charge of fund-raising. <br />ACTION: <br />Councilman Tavaglione will assist with fundraising. He plans <br />to arrange a meeting with appropriate parties. <br />
