The Committee agreed with most of the recommendations, demurring only on the suggestion to hold parades on Sundays and holidays. Events already scheduled in the near future will not be affected by any proposed change. The Black History Month parade will be routed as planned for 1993, with alternate routes to be studied for future parades. The Riverside County Centennial parade was also discussed. Several alternatives were offered to the route suggested by the County, with further negotiations between the City and the County expected. Chairwoman Thompson suggested a letter be sent to business owners who signed the petition. It would advise them that various parade routes are under study for future events, but that events scheduled for the near future cannot be moved at this time. However, no parade will be postponed due to inclement weather. The Downtown Division of the Chamber agreed to send the letter to the business owners on behalf of the Chamber stating that alternate routes are under consideration in order to share parades and events in various areas of the City. Also, the Chamber will advise business owners that efforts will be made to expedite entry and egress to businesses along parade routes as far as is possible. They will also be advised that dates for parades will be held firm. ACTION: The Downtown Division of the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce will send a letter to the business owners on Market Street between 14th and University stating that alternate routes for future events are under consideration in order to share parades and events in various parts of the City. The Chamber will also advise the business owners that efforts will be made to expedite entry and egress to their locations during events, and that dates for parades will be held firm. It was also decided that for the near future, events already scheduled will proceed as planned, due to their impending nature.
