SW& RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> P U 3 L I I UTILITIES <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: November 19, 2010 <br /> ITEM NO: 6 <br /> SUBJECT: UTILITIES OPERATION CENTER IMPROVEMENTS TO ELECTRIC METER SHOP <br /> WORK ORDER NO. 11 07910 <br /> ISSUE: <br /> Board of Public Utility approval is requested for Work Order No. 1107910. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve Work Order No. 1107910 in the amount of $1'10,000 for the <br /> renovation and improvements to the Electric Meter Shop at the Riverside Public Utilities Operation Center <br /> (UOC). <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The UOC is nearly 20 years old and the present workforce and equipment used in the day-to-day operations <br /> of the Water and Electric Divisions is nearly double of what was in place when the building was designed. <br /> The Electric Meter Shop. located on the first floor of the main building is in need of renovation and a new <br /> testing and training area needs to be constructed due to new meter technologies, including sophisticated <br /> Smart Grid applications and other equipment that is now required due to National Electrical Safety Code <br /> (NESC) and the National Electric Code (NEC). <br /> The area was originally designed for five employees and now houses approximately ten from time to time. An <br /> enclosed security area is needed to house incoming meters for testing and validation. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> The total estimated cost is $110,000 and includes: <br /> Test and Training room, furniture and equipment - $20,000 <br /> Replacement of linoleum the and carpet- $20,000 <br /> Lighting up-grades - $9,600 <br /> Furniture, cubicles, offices and storage- $50,000 <br /> Security Cage and Racks - $5,500 <br /> Design and Contingencies- $4,500 <br /> Sufficient funds are available in the Building Occupancy Account No. 6000010-462050. <br /> Prepared by: Stephen H.
