November 19, 2010 ITEM NO: 4 SUBJECT: CONDUIT AND STRUCTURES INSTALLATION AT COLLEGE AVENUE WOF r ORDER NO. 1026945 ISSUE: Board of Public Utilities approval is requested for Work Order No. 1026945. RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of $95,000 to replace out of date and deteriorating underground electrical cable and above ground electrical structures, located along College Avenue in the City of Riverside. BACKGROUND: The underground electric system in this area is badly deteriorated and is over 42 years old, and needs to be replaced. To prevent unplanned outages this project will replace a total of two above ground electrical structures as well as approximately 1,225 ft of obsolete 15 kV High Molecular Poly Ethylene (HMPE) insulation cable with our current standard 15 kV underground cable and install new conduit. All civil and electrical work including trenching, conduits and other infrastructure work will be performed by a contractor through the competitive bid process. FISCAL IMPACT: The capital expenditure for the project is estimated to be $95,000, which includes all construction, contingencies, construction management, inspection and design. Sufficient funds are budgeted and available for this project in the Cable Replacement Acct No. 6130000-470635. Prepared by: Stephen H.
