W A T E R 8 N E R G Y L I F E <br /> RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: August 17, 2012 <br /> ITEM NO: 5 <br /> SUBJECT: CONSTRUCTION OF THE GOODMAN/ROYCE DISTRIBUTION MAIN <br /> REPLACEMENT PROJECT—WORK ORDER NO. 1214257 <br /> ISSUE: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities consider approval of the capital expenditure in the amount of <br /> $1,645,044 to construct the Goodman/Royce Distribution Main Replacement Project. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the capital expenditure of $1,645,444 for Work Order No. <br /> 1214257 which includes all design, construction, paving, contract administration and construction <br /> contingency costs for the Goodman/Royce Distribution Main Replacement Project. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The construction of the Goodman/Royce Distribution Main Replacement Project is part of the on-going <br /> water main replacement program to replace old and high priority leaky mains. The project area consists <br /> of existing 4-inch and 6-inch cast iron water mains that were installed in the 1950's and 1960's and have <br /> experienced several leaks. The work will entail the construction of approximately 6,000 linear feet of <br /> eight-inch ductile iron pipe, 14 fire hydrants, 136 service tie-overs, and nine system connections. The <br /> work identified will be constructed by the Water Division's field forces. <br /> Once the new water pipelines are installed, Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) will be responsible for <br /> standard trench repaving per the Public Works standard. Near the end of pipeline construction, staff will <br /> solicit paving bids for paving the trench area through the Public Utilities Paving Contractor Panel.
