<br />Mayor’s Commission on Aging (MCOA) <br />Minutes <br />Tuesday, November 18, 2014, 4 p.m. <br />Janet Goeske Senior Center <br /> 5257 Sierra Street <br /> Riverside, CA 92504 <br /> <br />The mission of the Riverside Mayor’s Commission on Aging is to enhance the quality of life for seniors <br />in our community. We study local senior issues to learn about current programs, define future needs, <br />and reference best practices. We then make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on ways <br />we think the City of Riverside can maintain and improve its status as a Senior-Friendly Community. <br /> <br /> I. Call to Order, Pledge of Allegiance & Introductions <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:01 p.m. by Chair Leonard Doup; a quorum was present. <br />Pledge of Allegiance was recited. <br /> <br />Members Present: Jeannie Darnell, Leonard Doup, Bud Fish, Marie Leggette, Madeline Pruett, <br />Sandra Tarmo, and Irene Weir. <br /> <br /> Members Absent: Julie Brown-Tartaglino (Excused), Gloria Mattson Huerta, and Cyndi Pardee <br /> (Excused). <br /> <br />Others Present: Jetta Hice – Mayor’s Staff, Don Coon – RSVP, Kirsten Snyder – Welbrook <br />Senior Living, Concetta Germain – Keller Williams Realty, Bill & Grace Abboud – Senior Guide, <br />and Robert Reeves. <br /> <br /> II. Approval of Minutes <br /> Minutes from the October 14, 2014 meeting were reviewed and approved as presented. <br /> <br /> III. Announcements from Commission Members <br />Sandra Tarmo – 1) She and Mayor Bailey attended the unveiling of the Senior Angel Tree at <br />Welbrook Senior Living earlier today. The Mayor suggested the MCOA consider holding its <br />meetings at senior living facilities throughout the city, so Tarmo spoke with Kirsten Snyder to <br />arrange to have the February 2015 meeting at Welbrook. 2) Yesterday Tarmo Weir, Fish, and <br />Leggette visited the PACE facility in San Bernardino. It is a program affiliated with Medicare <br />and Medi-Cal in which they handle all the client’s healthcare needs; it is the program’s first <br />facility in California. 3) A suggestion was made to Tarmo that the MCOA consider <br />spearheading a Senior Olympics event in Riverside. <br /> <br />Madeline Pruett – Pruett discussed the appointment of a MCOA Historian as previously <br />approved. Doup asked Commissioners to email him suggestions about an appointment <br />process for the Commission Historian. In addition, Pruett asked for funds to purchase binders <br />and binder tabs for the creation of orientation binders for new Commission members. Based <br />on discussion, the following action was taken: <br /> <br /> Action: By motion duly made (Doup), seconded (Tarmo), and carried unanimously, <br /> the Commission approved the expenditure of up to $25.00 for the purchase of binders <br /> and binder tabs to create orientation books for new Commissioners. <br /> <br /> <br /> Jeannie Darnell – Reported she produced mailing labels for local churches for use in <br /> organizing Senior Citizen Day. <br />
