Mayor’s Commission on Aging – September 9, 2014

Minutes – Page Two

Manager, and Dawn Pia from Parks and Recreation. A Subcommittee consisting of Weir
(Chair), Doup, Fish, and Sandy Tarmo was formed to organize SCD.

B. Senior Resource Guide – Tarmo said this seems to have become “derailed”, noting
the Abbouds were hoping to have the City’s endorsement of their Guide, but it is
not possible as it is not a City project. She will provide Doup the Abbouds’ contact
number so he can contact them for an update.

C. MCOA Website – Weir was working on getting the portion of the City website
relative to the MCOA updated; however, she is too busy now with Senior Citizen
Day. Jetta Hice will find out the best process for making changes.

D. Senior Corps – Don Coon reported he now has a list of the RSVP’s specific needs.
Coon warned about scams targeting seniors and said he will ask a representative
from the County Office on Aging to attend a future MCOA meeting to discuss these

scams.

V. Discussion Items
st
A. Presentation on Gerontology in the 21 Century – Doup will contact Mr. Marten
about his request for this presentation.

VI. Action Items
None.

VII. Public Comments
A. Concetta Germain introduced herself and said she works for Keller Williams Real
Estate with 55+ relocation services. She indicated she has spoken at senior
centers regarding the specific needs of seniors as they relate to real estate
transactions and relocations.

B. Hice reported that Mayor Bailey will be making visits to senior housing facilities in
the City and would like representatives from the MCOA to go with him. She said
she will schedule his visits, then inform the Commissioners to determine who can
attend with him.

VIII. Items for Future Consideration
None.

IX. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 pm.
