<br />Mayor’s Commission on Aging (MCOA) <br />Minutes <br />Tuesday, September 9, 2014, 4 p.m. <br />Janet Goeske Senior Center <br /> 5257 Sierra Street <br /> Riverside, CA 92504 <br /> <br />The mission of the Riverside Mayor’s Commission on Aging is to enhance the quality of life for seniors <br />in our community. We study local senior issues to learn about current programs, define future needs, <br />and reference best practices. We then make recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on ways <br />we think the City of Riverside can maintain and improve its status as a Senior-Friendly Community. <br /> <br /> I. Call to Order, Pledge of Allegiance & Introductions <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:03 p.m. by Chair Leonard Doup; a quorum was present. <br />Pledge of Allegiance was recited. <br /> <br />Members Present: Jeannie Darnell, Leonard Doup, Bud Fish, Cyndi Pardee, Madeline Pruett, <br />Sandy Tarmo, and Irene Weir. <br /> <br /> Members Absent: Julie Brown-Tartaglino – Excused, Marie Leggette – Excused. <br /> <br />Others Present: Jetta Hice – Mayor’s Staff, Sherry Morton – Asst City Clerk, and Don Coon – <br />RSVP Coordinator. <br /> <br /> II. Approval of Minutes <br /> Minutes from the August 12, 2014 meeting were reviewed and approved with the <br /> following addition: <br /> <br /> Page 2, Section VI (B) – Following “Action Taken” add: In addition, a Subcommittee <br /> consisting of Commissioners Pruett, Doup, Pardee, Brown-Tartaglino, and Darnell was <br /> formed to develop an orientation process for new Commissioners. <br /> <br /> III. Announcements from Commission Members <br />A.Sandy Tarmo reported attending the AARP meeting and listening to a speaker from the <br /> <br />County Office on Aging. <br /> <br />B.Village to Village - Cyndi Pardee provided speaking points for Commissioners’ reference. <br /> <br /> <br /> C. Madeline Pruett reported the Orientation Subcommittee met and identified a <br /> number of ideas they will be bringing to the entire Commission. Pruett also noted <br /> some of the Commissioners’ contact information is not correct on the membership <br /> listing. Jeannie Darnell volunteered to update the information. A suggestion was <br /> also made to appoint a Commission historian to maintain an ongoing binder. <br /> <br /> IV. Update Reports <br />A.Senior Citizen Day (SCD) – Irene Weir reported she met with Tonya Kennon, the Library <br /> <br />Director, who said she will meet with the Friends of the Library regarding a celebration of <br />some sort on SCD. Weir, Leonard Doup, and Bud Fish met with the Chamber of <br />Commerce President/CEO Cindy Roth, who had several ideas. Weir will also be meeting <br />with the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center, Stephanie Harvey – City Marketing <br />
