Mayor’s Commission on Aging – June 10, 2014 <br />Minutes – Page Two <br /> <br />Action Taken: By motion duly made, seconded, and carried unanimously, the <br /> <br /> MCOA agreed to work with Bill and Grace Abboud on the proposed Senior <br /> Guide. The Commissioners will communicate their Guide content ideas to each <br /> other via email prior to the August 12, 2014 MCOA meeting, and partner with the <br /> Abbouds if cleared by the City to do so. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> B. Senior Corps – Don Coon reported he is working on the Caring Companions <br /> program, the Mobile Fresh Bus program, and a program with the Alvord Unified <br /> School District for volunteers to provide tutoring. <br /> <br /> V. Discussion Items <br /> A. Ways to Advertise the MCOA – Commissioner Tarmo reminded the Commissioners <br />they need to be in attendance at the videotaping of a mock MCOA meeting on Friday, <br />June 13, at 2 pm in the Mayor’s Ceremonial Room at City Hall. This video will be <br />edited and broadcast on Channel 3, GTV to inform City residents of the MCOA and its <br />purpose. <br /> <br /> B. Senior Citizen Day – Commissioner Weir recommended the establishment of <br />August 21 as Senior Citizen Day in Riverside to coincide with the National Senior <br />Citizen Day. She envisions presentation of the senior awards on that date as well. <br /> <br /> <br />Action Taken: By motion duly made, seconded, and carried unanimously, the <br /> MCOA agreed to postpone the presentation of senior awards to 2015 to allow a <br /> subcommittee time to develop Senior Citizen Day activities (including senior <br /> awards) to take place in conjunction with National Senior Citizen Day on, or <br /> around, August 21, 2015. <br /> <br /> <br />Commissioners <br />Based on the above motion, the Subcommittee was formed to include <br />Weir, Leggette, Darnell, and Doup. <br /> <br />C. MCOA Website – Commissioner Weir provided a handout showing her ideas as to <br />what the basic content of the website should be. She strongly believes the website <br />needs to be interactive. The Commissioners were asked to review the handout for <br />discussion at the next meeting. <br /> <br />D. Review of MCOA Bylaws – Based on Commission discussion, a Subcommittee was <br />formed to review the Bylaws and bring recommended changes to the August MCOA <br />meeting. The Subcommittee includes Commissioners Brown-Tartaglino, Leggette, and <br />Pardee. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
