<br />Mayor’s Commission on Aging (MCOA) <br />Minutes <br />Tuesday, June 10, 2014, 4 p.m. <br />Janet Goeske Senior Center <br /> 5257 Sierra Street <br /> <br /> Riverside, CA 92504 <br /> <br />The mission of the Riverside Mayor’s Commission on Aging is to enhance the quality of life for <br />seniors in our community. We study local senior issues to learn about current programs, <br />define future needs, and reference best practices. We then make recommendations to the <br />Mayor and City Council on ways we think the City of Riverside can maintain and improve its <br />status as a Senior-Friendly Community. <br /> <br /> <br />I. Call to Order, Pledge of Allegiance & Introductions <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:02 p.m. by Interim Chair Sandra Tarmo; a <br />quorum was present. Pledge of Allegiance was recited. <br /> <br />Members Present: Julie Brown-Tartaglino, Jeannie Darnell, Bud Fish, Cyndi Pardee, <br />Madeline Pruett, Sandy Tarmo, Irene Weir, and Marie Leggette. <br /> <br /> Members Absent: Leonard Doup – Excused. <br /> <br />Others Present: Jetta Hice – Mayor’s Staff; Nancy Castillo - Public Service <br />Representative, Riverside Police Department; Don Coon – Volunteer Coordinator, <br />RSVP. <br /> <br /> II. Approval of Minutes <br /> Minutes from the May 13, 2014 meeting were reviewed and approved as <br /> presented. <br /> <br /> III. Announcements from Commission Members <br />A. Attendance at Mayor’s Night Out (MNO) – Commissioner Weir stated attendance at <br />MNO should not just be the Commission Chair, but the Chair and the Commissioner <br />who represents the Ward in which the MNO is being held. She believes a more <br />concerted effort to attend needs to be made by the Commissioners. Mr. Coon <br />mentioned it might be a good idea for Commissioners to attend the Chamber of <br />Commerce’s Division meetings throughout the City. Commissioner Pardee said she <br />will contact the Chamber to find out if Commissioners can attend their Division <br />meetings. <br /> <br /> IV. Update Reports and Announcements <br /> A. <br />Senior Resource Guide – Bill and Grace Abboud presented their plans to publish a <br /> Riverside-centric senior resource guide. They stated there would be no cost to the <br /> Commission or the City; advertisements would pay for publishing costs. The Abbouds <br /> indicated the MCOA could suggest things to be included. <br /> <br />
