<br />Mayor’s Commission on Aging (MCOA) <br />Minutes <br />Tuesday, May 13, 2014, 4 p.m. <br />Janet Goeske Senior Center <br /> 5257 Sierra Street <br /> <br /> Riverside, CA 92504 <br /> <br />The mission of the Riverside Mayor’s Commission on Aging is to enhance the quality of life for <br />seniors in our community. We study local senior issues to learn about current programs, <br />define future needs, and reference best practices. We then make recommendations to the <br />Mayor and City Council on ways we think the City of Riverside can maintain and improve its <br />status as a Senior-Friendly Community. <br /> <br /> <br />I. Call to Order, Pledge of Allegiance & Introductions <br />Jeannie Darnell was sworn in as a Commissioner by Lorena Verdusco, Deputy City <br />Clerk. <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:03 p.m. by Chair Leonard Doup; a quorum was <br />present. Pledge of Allegiance was recited. <br /> <br />Members Present: Julie Brown-Tartaglino, Leonard Doup, Bud Fish, Cyndi Pardee, <br />Madeline Pruett, Sandy Tarmo, Irene Weir, and Marie Leggette. <br /> <br /> Members Absent: None <br /> <br />Others Present: Felina Rosales – Mayor’s Staff; Chris Vicino – Assistant Chief, <br />Riverside Police Department; Kristen Reid-Community Services Representative, <br />PRCSD; Kirsten Rakow, Renaissance Village. <br /> <br /> II. Approval of Minutes <br /> Minutes from the April 8, 2014 meeting were reviewed and approved as <br /> presented. <br /> <br />Chief Vicino presented on Silver Alert which will assist with the growing population of <br />seniors. About 5,000 residents in Riverside suffer from Dementia and in the incident <br />an individual wanders from home, the bracelet will help return that individual home <br />safely. The bracelet has a code on the inside of it which can be scanned and tell <br />anyone who to contact and where the person lives. RPD will be able to purchase the <br />bracelets for $8.00 a piece and anticipate to begin passing them out early July of this <br />year. Riverside will be the first city in California to implement the device and will work <br />with MyID closely to train Police officers, Firefighters and ambulance personal. <br /> <br /> III. Announcements from Commission Members <br />Cyndi Pardee invited all Commissioners to attend a “Village to Village” meeting with <br />her on Monday, May 19. <br /> <br />
