<br />Mayor’s Commission on Aging (MCOA) <br />Minutes <br />Tuesday, April 8, 2014, 4 p.m. <br />Janet Goeske Senior Center <br /> 5257 Sierra Street <br /> <br /> Riverside, CA 92504 <br /> <br />The mission of the Riverside Mayor’s Commission on Aging is to enhance the quality of life for <br />seniors in our community. We study local senior issues to learn about current programs, <br />define future needs, and reference best practices. We then make recommendations to the <br />Mayor and City Council on ways we think the City of Riverside can maintain and improve its <br />status as a Senior-Friendly Community. <br /> <br /> <br />I. Call to Order, Pledge of Allegiance & Introductions <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Chair Leonard Doup; a quorum was <br />present. Pledge of Allegiance was recited. <br /> <br />Members Present: Julie Brown-Tartaglino, Leonard Doup, Bud Fish, Cyndi Pardee, <br />Madeline Pruett, Sandra Tarmo, Irene Weir & Marie Leggette <br /> <br /> Members Absent: None <br /> <br />Others Present: Felina Rosales – Mayor’s Staff; Nancy Castillo - Public Service <br />Representative, Riverside Police Department; Dawn Pia & Kristen Reid – Community <br />Services Representatives, PRCSD. <br /> <br /> II. Approval of Minutes <br /> Minutes from the March 11, 2014 meeting were reviewed and approved as <br /> presented. <br /> <br /> III. Announcements from Commission Members <br />Chairman Doup announced Adeny Schmidt was recognized at the March 31 Boards & <br />Commissions Reception/Dinner for her contributions as a MCOA Commissioner. <br />Julie Brown-Tartaglino passed out a handout on Meal on Wheels and shared that the <br />group is looking for volunteers because of the 1,000+ meals given out daily. Sandy <br />Tarmo invited everyone to the California Woman’s scholarship concert on May 4, 2014 <br />at the Riverside Convention Center. <br /> <br /> IV. Update Reports and Announcements <br /> 1. <br />Kristen Reid discussed the City’s Resource Guide that was first printed four years <br /> ago. There is no budget for the Guide but ad’s sold pay for cost of printing. There <br /> is also an online version of the Guide. Reid said MCOA will get a half page ad for <br />, <br /> free this year. Dawn Pia stated the deadline for ads is May 22014. It will be <br /> printed this June and distributed in July. Going forward, the year will be removed <br /> from the cover. Other avenues suggested to advertise MCOA would be the <br /> Activity Guide and Explore Riverside magazine, both which are City of Riverside <br />
