<br />Mayor’s Commission on Aging (MCOA) <br />Minutes <br />Tuesday, March 11, 2014, 4 p.m. <br />Janet Goeske Senior Center <br /> 5257 Sierra Street <br /> <br /> Riverside, CA 92504 <br /> <br />The mission of the Riverside Mayor’s Commission on Aging is to enhance the quality of life for <br />seniors in our community. We study local senior issues to learn about current programs, <br />define future needs, and reference best practices. We then make recommendations to the <br />Mayor and City Council on ways we think the City of Riverside can maintain and improve its <br />status as a Senior-Friendly Community. <br /> <br /> <br />I. Call to Order, Pledge of Allegiance & Introductions <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:01 p.m. by Chair Leonard Doup; a quorum was <br />present. Pledge of Allegiance was recited. <br /> <br />Members Present: Julie Brown-Tartaglino, Leonard Doup, Bud Fish, Cyndi Pardee, <br />Madeline Pruett, Sandy Tarmo, Irene Weir. <br /> <br /> Members Absent: Marie Leggette (Excused). <br /> <br /> Others Present: Jetta Hice - Mayor’s Staff; Felina Rosales – Mayor’s Staff; Don Coon, <br /> Volunteer Coordinator, RSVP; Nancy Castillo - Public Service Representative, Riverside <br /> Police Department. <br /> <br /> II. Approval of Minutes <br /> Minutes from the February 11, 2014 meeting were reviewed and approved as <br /> presented. <br /> <br /> III. Announcements from Commission Members <br /> Chairman Doup announced Adeny Schmidt’s Commission term has expired. She will <br /> be honored at the March 31 Boards & Commissions Reception/Dinner for her <br /> contributions as a MCOA Commissioner. <br /> <br /> IV. Update Reports and Announcements <br /> <br />1. Senior Services Brochure Update – Tarmo and Hice reported on their meeting <br /> with New Lifestyles representative Jason Gentry. He indicated we can provide <br /> updates to any of the information in their existing categories (i.e., add new senior <br /> centers, correct information, etc.), but no new categories can be added. Mr. <br /> Gentry further stated we could get copies of the resource guide for free. Tarmo <br /> reported he also provided guidance on producing a guide if the MCOA wishes to <br /> pursue that option. Weir stated she has also been working on finding resource <br /> information and noted the City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services <br /> Department already produces a Senior Guide. She suggested combining our <br /> information with theirs and said she spoke with Dawn Pia who said she would be <br />
