Mayor’s Commission on Aging – February 11, 2014 Minutes – Page Two IV. Update Reports and Announcements 1. Aging in Place – Julie Brown-Tartaglino, Sandy Tarmo, and Irene Weir reported the subcommittee met on November 21, 2013 to discuss the Aging in Place program. Based on discussion at the meeting, they were in agreement the program does not fit Riverside. They believe many of the program objectives can be accomplished in Riverside without enrolling in the program. 2. Senior Services Brochure – Tarmo provided a brief overview of the proposed Senior Services Brochure (please see attached). Her desire is to have a comprehensive guide for seniors in Riverside that would be updated on a regular basis. Weir suggested creation of a MCOA website, separate from the City website, featuring links to resources for seniors. Jetta Hice shared a copy of “New LifeStyles” magazine, which is a guide for Orange County and Inland Empire seniors, and suggested contacting them to find out if we could simply update the information in their guide, the perhaps build a website. Hice suggested the guide could be specifically provided to Meals on Wheels and YANA (You Are Not Alone) for distribution to their participants. Tarmo agreed to contact the “New LifeStyles” publisher and report back to the Commission. 3. Senior Corps – Don Coon updated the Commissioners on current activities. He suggested Commissioners visit the Goeske Senior Center during mealtimes and visit table-to-table to ask about senior issues. V. Discussion Items 1. Determination of MCOA “Target Audience” – Discussion resulted in the following organizations being identified as target audiences or sources for identification of seniors needing assistance: Riverside religious organizations, YANA, Meals on Wheels, Home Health Care agencies.
