<br />Mayor’s Commission on Aging (MCOA) <br />Minutes <br />Tuesday, February 11, 2014, 4 p.m. <br />Janet Goeske Senior Center <br /> 5257 Sierra Street <br /> <br /> Riverside, CA 92504 <br /> <br />The mission of the Riverside Mayor’s Commission on Aging is to enhance the quality of life for <br />seniors in our community. We study local senior issues to learn about current programs, <br />define future needs, and reference best practices. We then make recommendations to the <br />Mayor and City Council on ways we think the City of Riverside can maintain and improve its <br />status as a Senior-Friendly Community. <br /> <br /> <br />I. Call to Order, Pledge of Allegiance & Introductions <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:01 p.m. by Chair Leonard Doup; a quorum was <br />present. Pledge of Allegiance was recited. <br /> <br />Members Present: Julie Brown-Tartaglino, Leonard Doup, Cyndi Pardee, Adeny <br />Schmidt, Sandy Tarmo, Irene Weir. <br /> <br /> Members Absent: Bud Fish (Excused), Marie Leggette (Excused), Madeline Pruett <br /> (Excused). <br /> <br /> Others Present: Jetta Hice - Mayor’s Staff; Don Coon, Volunteer Coordinator, RSVP; <br /> Nancy Castillo - Public Service Representative, Riverside Police Department; Richard <br /> Marten. <br /> <br /> II. Approval of Minutes <br /> Minutes from the November 12, 2013 meeting were reviewed and approved as <br /> presented. No Commission meetings were held in December 2013, or January 2014. <br /> <br /> III. Announcements from Commission Members <br /> 1. Sandra Tarmo – Announced a May 4 concert by the California Women’s Chorus. <br /> It is a fundraiser for voice scholarships and will be held at 2:00 pm at the <br /> Riverside Convention Center. <br /> <br /> 2. Adeny Schmidt – Announced she will be contacting all places of worship in her <br /> Ward to ask what Senior issues they have identified. She challenged the other <br /> Commissioners to contact places of worship in their respective Wards for the <br /> same purpose. <br /> <br /> 3. Irene Weir – Suggested the MCOA sponsor a contest to find the best idea for the <br /> MCOA to adopt as a project. She distributed an overview of an idea she has <br /> been working on (please attached). <br /> <br /> <br />
