Brockton Arcade area was one of the more
significant areas addressed.
• Continually searching for and implementing new parking options for the temporary
Convention Center at the Municipal Auditorium. For instance, creating diagonal spaces
on Lime and freeing up spaces in nearby lots and garages.
• Reviewed accident statistics regularly with the Police Department and Public Works
Department — both fatalities and major injuries are on the decline.
• Reviewed occupancy rates and relocated parking meters out of Riverside County Office
of Education area on 10th, 11th and 12th streets.
• Worked with our new parking operators — Central Parking — to upgrade the revenue
control equipment and software in garages.
• Provided input for Downtown wayfinding signs.
• Reviewed the recent bike program report by Livable Communities Inc. (Charlie Gandy)
for which several of the recommendations are currently being implemented.
• Received various public comments on parking and circulation issues and directed
concerns to appropriate authorities
• Received and discussed reports on matters falling within the scope of Transportation
Board responsibilities including such items as safe routes to schools grants, bicycle
grants, sustainable streets, and walkable communities.
• Provided the opportunity for each commissioner to bring traffic, circulation and parking
issues in their respective communities to the attention of the Traffic Engineering staff for
possible action or remedy as appropriate.
• Provided a representative to the Mayor Transportation Accountability Performance
panel (TAP).
• Received a new name — Transportation Board — to better reflect our current duties.
Previously the Board operated as the Parking, Traffic and Streets Commission.
In the coming year, the Board expects to continue to carry out its assigned duties and hopes to
provide valuable decision-making input to the staff and the City Council based on the
community perspective and expertise of its individual members. The next major item, planned
for Transportation Board review in January 2013, is the transportation section of the draft EIR
for the Overlook / Crystal View area. The Board will provide comments on this item to the
Planning Commission and City Council. As in the past, the Board intends to provide a forum
for members of the public to bring their parking and circulation concerns to the City in a user-
friendly atmosphere which allows ample time for thorough discussion and review of the issues.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund associated with this update.
Prepared by: Crista Curtis, 2012-2013 Chair, Transportation Board
Approved as to form: Gregory P.
