Bicycle Master Plan Update . Page 2
Arlington Avenue. The Jefferson Street Bike Lane Project is expected to be completed by June
2012.
The attached addendum also describes additional recommendations for bicycle related
improvements, including a new network of proposed bicycle facilities and programs that will help
to enhance Riverside's designation as a bicycle friendly community. The plan update proposes
17 miles of class I bike paths, 49.6 miles of class II bike lanes, and 36.4 miles of class III bike
routes. It also recommends the implementation of bike boulevards, a bike share program, a
bicycle rack design contest, and installation of bike corrals where high volume bicycle parking is
needed. Additionally, the City is considering trail improvements including a possible realignment
of the Santa Ana River Trail (SART) between Martha McLean Park and the Community of
Rubidoux.
In an effort to continue its progress towards creating a bicycle culture, the City is working with
bicycle consultant, Charles Gandy, known nationally for his bicycle advocacy work in the City of
Long Beach. Staff will return to City Council in April to provide a complete update on the work
Mr. Gandy is doing in Riverside.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with approving the Bicycle Master Plan Update Addendum.
The funding necessary to implement recommendations made by the Bicycle Master Plan will be
identified as projects are chosen for implementation.
Prepared by: Thomas J.
