ax nr EkSID1 C IV ei City Council Memorandum Cit �fAlrts Unn ovarion TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: October 4, 2011 FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT ITEM NO: 26 WARD: 3 SUBJECT: REMOVAL OF PREFERENTIAL PARKING ZONE ON YELLOWSTONE DRIVE — RESOLUTION ISSUE The issue for City Council consideration is removal of the existing Preferential Parking Zone (PPZ) on both sides of Yellowstone Drive from San Simeon Way to Nelson Street. RECOMMENDATIONS That the City Council: 1. Adopt a Resolution to remove the existing "No Parking Between the Hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. of Any Day except Sunday, with Preferential Permit Parking for residents" zone on both sides of Yellowstone Drive from San Simeon Way to Nelson Street; and 2. Authorize and direct the Traffic Engineer to revise the specific pages of the Master Parking Schedule necessary to incorporate the amendment and distribute the revised pages to the appropriate personnel with directions to delete the amended pages and insert the revised pages in the appropriate tables. COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION On September 7, 2011, the Parking, Traffic and Streets Commission met to review this matter; eight (8) of nine (9) members were present. The Commission voted unanimously to recommend removal of the existing PPZ on both sides of Yellowstone Drive from San Simeon Way to Nelson Street. BACKGROUND The Public Works Department received a petition signed by fifty -eight percent (58 %) of residents on both sides of Yellowstone Drive from San Simeon Way to Nelson Street requesting removal of the existing PPZ. Additionally, thirty -three percent (33 %) of homes within this street segment are vacant properties. 26 -1
