BAILEY, III WARD: ALL SUBJECT: NAMING OF RIVERSIDE CITY HALL IN HONOR OF MAYOR RONALD O. LOVERIDGE ISSUE: The issue for City Council consideration is the naming, of Riverside City Hall in Mayor Ron Loveridge's honor — The Ronald D. Loveridge Riverside City Hall. The honor would acknowledge his unprecedented years of dedicated public service, the principles of civility, vision, inclusivity and best practices for which he stands, as well as the federal, statewide and regional recognition he brings to Riverside through his leadership. RECOMMENDATIONS: That the City Council: 1. Approve naming Riverside City Hall as The Ronald O. Loveridge Riverside City Hall, and; 2. Direct the City Manager or his designee to work with the private committee recommending this action to determine signage and fashion an appropriate dedication plaque. BACKGROUND: A committee of private citizens which met several times to determine a fitting way to recognize Mayor Loveridge's contributions to the City as he nears retirement in June/November 2012 proposed the renaming of Riverside City Hall in the Mayor's honor. Many groups, organizations and individuals are graciously hosting receptions and events to recognize Mayor Loveridge. However, the committee strongly felt that a more lasting recognition linked specifically to the place the Mayor has invested his lifeblood in these past 32 years would be a meaningful and suitable way to memorialize both his tangible and intangible contributions. The basis for this honor is threefold and includes: (1) Recognition, of his exemplary and exceptional elected leadership — as City Councilmember for Ward 1 from 1979 to 1994 and then as Mayor since 1994. Spanning some 32 years of consecutive elected office, the Mayor has made service within and on behalf of City Hall his life legacy. FOOS
