Naming of Rivemde C* Hall *Page 2
(2) Acknowledgment and support of the principles of civility, vision, inclusivity and best
practices for which he stands. Mayor Loveridge is well known as a proponent of good
government, bringing a thoughtful, measured, and considerate approach to advancing
Riverside as a great city, the City of Arts & Innovation. (3) Appreciation for the leadership he
has shown at the regional, state and federal levels. In particular, Mayor Loveridge's service as
president of the National League of Cities and of the League of California Cities has brought
recognition and prestige to Riverside, elevating our City and gaining us a seat at the table in
nearly all important policy decisions affecting cities across the State and Country.
The committee makes reference to a variety of precedents for such naming actions. These
include Los Angeles' James K. Hahn City Hall East after former Mayor Hahn, Capitol Heights,
Maryland's Vivian Dodson Municipal Center naming their Town Hall in honor of former Mayor
Dodson, and Ann Arbor, Michigan's Guy C. Larcom Jr. Municipal Building recognizing former
City Administrator Larcom.
It is thought that while the formal name of City Hall would become The Ronald O. Loveridge
Riverside City Hall we would continue to simply refer to it as City Hall.
Members of the committee enthusiastically endorsing this action include: Kathie Allavie, Jane
Carney, Damon Castillo, Jack Clarke, Dr. Harki Dhillon, Jim Erickson, Brad Hudson, Sue
Johnson, Roger Luebs, Rose Mayes, Tom Mullen, Neil Okazaki, Cindy Roth, Mark Rubin,
Kristin Tillquist, Jack Yeager, Ted Weggeland.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. As any paper letterhead or other
documents bearing the name of City Hall are depleted the new name would be substituted.
The signage and plaque will be privately funded.
Prepared by:
Chris Mac Arthur
Councilmember, Ward 5
Approved as to form:
Gregory P. Priamos, City Attorney
William R. (Rusty) Bail , III
Councilmembei,
15011111111W
LeErA
