The measure
stopped State raids of local redevelopment funds. Despite this clear voter mandate, legislators
passed and the Governor signed AB 1x 26 and 27 in blatant violation of Prop. 22 and the will of
the voters. AB 1x 26 would abolish redevelopment agencies and AB 1x 27 would allow agencies
to exist in some limited capacity only if they agreed to pay a "ransom" payment of $1.7 billion
statewide in the first year and $400 million statewide each year thereafter.
`Fire Protection Fee' Continued from Page 1...
An increasing population and urban development in state responsibility areas in the recent
decades has also increased the costs associated with fire protection in state wildland areas. The
bill makes landowners in these areas responsible for producing a portion of the costs related to
wildland fire prevention and protection services.
The Governor signed the bill knowing that, as drafted, the revenues may not materialize and
directs the Legislature to work with the Department of Finance and CAL FIRE to clean -up
language to actualize these revenues.
The Governor issued a statement regarding the signing of ABX1 29. The Governor's full signing
statement can be accessed here. ( h11p: / / Gov.ca.Gov /flocs /ABX129.pdf
2
49a -2
