IT staff agreed to return to CHB in
approximately six months to provide an update.
The new Citywide GIS, known as City Viewer, was launched in January 2021. In March 2021, City
Planning and IT Staff began meeting on a weekly basis to work on the conversion of the Historic
Viewer from the existing Microsoft Access Database to a GIS based database. This allows the
information from the Historic Viewer to be integrated into the City's GIS system.
Planning and IT Staff worked together to determine the best method of conversion. The conversion
of some of the data posed challenges as some property addresses have changed over time.
Planning staff is in the final stages of reviewing the data conversion to confirm the data information
is associated with the correct property
In September 2021, staff began working on the design of the Historic Viewer which will be
integrated into the City Viewer allowing the data to be accessible to Staff and the public. The
final Historic Viewer will take approximately six to twelve months to be developed.
Prepared by: Scott Watson, Historic Preservation Officer
Reviewed by: David Murray, Principal Planner
Approved by: Mary Kopaskie-Brown, City Planner
Page 1 GIS and Historic Viewer Update
October 20, 2021
