<br />CALIFORNIA INLAND EMPIRE REGION FOR USE OF SHAMEL SWIMMING
<br />POOL
<br />ISSUE:
<br />The issue for City Council consideration is approval of a Facility Use Agreement with Special
<br />Olympics Southern California Inland Empire Region for the use of the Shamel Swimming Pool
<br />located at Shamel Park.
<br />RECOMMENDATIONS
<br />That the City Council:
<br />1. Approve the attached Facility Use Agreement with Special Olympics Southern California
<br />Inland Empire Region; and
<br />2. Authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to execute all necessary documents.
<br />BACKGROUND
<br />The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department ( PRCSD) has worked collaboratively
<br />with Special Olympics Southern California Inland Empire Region (SOSC) since 2007 to provide
<br />quality sports training and athletic competition in aquatics for children and adults with physical
<br />and /or mental disabilities. The SOSC, a non - profit organization, offers quality sports training and
<br />organized competitions that help improve the lives of people with disabilities. More than 200
<br />SOSC athletes will participate in swim practice and competitions at the Shamel Swimming Pool.
<br />The PRCSD supports SOSC's continued use of the Shamel Swimming Pool, through June 30,
<br />2016, because of the direct benefits City of Riverside residents receive from aquatics
<br />programming offered by SOSC.
<br />During the term of the Agreement, SOSC shall have priority access, during the specified days and
<br />hours, to the Shamel Swimming Pool from February 1 through June 30. SOSC access will be
<br />scheduled behind all City and City co- sponsored programs and activities.
