INC. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br /> <br />The applicant, Goodfaith Medical Transportation Co., Inc., has applied for a Vehicle for Hire Permit under the <br />provisions of Chapter 5.40 of the Riverside Municipal Code. The applicant wishes to provide non-emergency <br />wheelchair van transportationtaking clients to and from appointments. A Council report on this matter went to City <br />Council on October 13, 1998. <br /> <br />The applicant has provided CPR and First Aid Certificates for all personnel who expect to drive vans in the City <br />of Riverside. Each driver has been approved and has acquired an operator' s permit issued by the Riverside Police <br />Department. <br /> <br />The applicant' s vehicles meet ADA requirements providing wheelchairs, seating for ambulatory clients, wheelchair <br />tie-downs and a rear-loading lift for wheelchairs and are equipped with two-way radios. <br /> <br />The applicant has provided insurance coverage in the amount orS1,000,000 as required by Section 5.40.080 of the <br />Riverside Municipal Code. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> <br />The proposed application would have minimal if any fiscal impact on the City. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES: <br /> <br />Deny the applicant's request, although seven other companies are authorized to operate in the City. <br />COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: <br /> <br />The Public Safety Committee unanimously approved (3 members present) the application for the Vehicle for Hire <br />Permit at their meeting on November 5, 1998. Committee members recommended that the Council conduct a public <br />hearing on the matter and give favorable consideration to the application. <br /> <br />34-1 <br /> <br /> <br />
