CITY OF RIVERSIDE C I TY COUNC I L MEMORANDUM HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: December 1, 1998 ITEM NO.: 11 SUBJECT: CITY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES RELATED TO MOVING BUILDINGS AND CUTTING/TRIMMING TREES Background: The move of the Rockhold house from 12th and Lemon Streets to Lakehill Drive raised several questions as to the policies and procedures regulating houses being moved through the City. On September 8, 1998, the City Council requested that clear policies and procedures for cutting/trimming trees as they relate to moving homes/buildings on City streets be developed. It was also requested that the staff report and recommendations be presented to the Cultural Heritage Board, the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Council's Community Services and Youth Committee for comment. A final report was requested to be presented to the Council within 90 days. A number of meetings have been held with representatives of the Planning Department, the Building and Safety Division, the Parks and Recreation Department and the Public Works Street Division. Work is ongoing to revamp the policies and procedures regulating house moves and street tree cut- ting/trimming. Due to the need to present the draft report to various Boards and Commissions prior to presenting the final report to Council, additional time is required. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council authorize an additional 90 days to present the final report.
