1 <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br />6 <br /> <br />7 <br /> <br />8 <br /> <br />9 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 16712 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, URGING THE CALIFORNIA <br />LEGISLATURE TO ADOPT AN AMENDMENT TO THE <br />CALIFORNIA BEVERAGE CONTAINER RECYCLING AND <br />LITTER REDUCTION ACT TO INCLUDE WINE AND SPIRIT <br />COOLERS WITHIN THE PROVISIONS OF THAT ACT AND <br />ADVISING THE LEGISLATURE THAT IF IT DOES NOT ACT <br />ON OR BEFORE SEPTEMBER 1, 1988, TO BRING WINE AND <br />SPIRIT COOLERS UNDER THE ACT, THE CITY COUNCIL <br />INTENDS TO PASS A LOCAL ORDINANCE REQUIRING A 5¢ <br />DEPOSIT FOR WINE AND SPIRIT COOLERS TO TAKE <br />EFFECT ON JANUARY 1, 1989 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the current Beverage Container Recycling and Litter <br /> <br />|0 Reduction Act adopted in 1986, exempted wine and spirit coolers from <br />]1 its provisions; and <br />]2 WHEREAS, the City Council believes that these bottles <br />]3 contribute to litter and use the same natural resources as other glass <br />]4 containers; and <br />15 WHEREAS, there is no resource or conservation reason why <br />16 there should be a distinction between wine and spirit cooler bottles <br />]7 and other types of bottles included under the Act; and <br />]8 WHEREAS, the City Council believes that inclusion of wine <br />]9 and spirit coolers in the Act will result in more equitable and <br />20 environmentally sound legislation; and <br />21 WHEREAS, if the Legislature does not act within a reasonable <br />22 time to make State recycling legislation more comprehensive by <br />23 including wine and spirit coolers, cities and counties will need to <br />24 act to address the missing components of the current law. <br />25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br /> <br />26 CITY OF RIVERSIDE, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />27 <br /> <br />28 <br /> <br />Note: Ronald Loveridge was not Mayor on <br /> 1-26-88.
