CA06-1018
...................... .0.... ........................0.......... ,., .......
As you are aware, Assembly 8ill1234 became effective on January 1, 2006, and requires local
elected officials to receive two hours of ethics training. For those officials who were in service
as of January 1,2006, the deadline for receiving the first round of training is January 1,2007.
The requirement applies to local officials who either receive compensation for their service to
the City or are reimbursed for their expenses.
The training must cover both ethics laws and ethics principals. There are a number of options
for complying with this requirement.
. The City of Riverside will be offering training on June 27, 2006, from 12:00 p.m. to
2:00 p.m. in the Mayor's Ceremonial Room as part of a regular City Council
meeting.
. Self-study materials are available at www.ca-ilo.oro/ab1234comoliance. The
materials require that you read two articles on public service ethics laws and
principals, take a self-assessment test and then submit it to the Institute for Local
Government with a processing fee. The Institute will review your test, provide you
with the correct answers to the questions, and a proof of participation certification.
. Regional and state-wide training opportunities include those offered by the League
of California Cities at its Executive Quorum on July 28, 2006 in Monterey, and its
annual conference on September 6 - 9 in San Diego. Additional options are
described at www.ca-iIO.oro/ab1234comoliance.
