<br /> Present: Mayor Dales~ presiding, CounciLmen Bennett, Cham~berlain, Goodspeed~ O'Neill,
<br />S,~tz and Yetis; City Manager Kin~, City Attorney Ford, and City Clerk Waite.
<br />
<br /> The pledge of allegiance was given to the flag of the United States of f~nerica.
<br />
<br /> A prayer ~a.'; offered by Mayor ~ales.
<br />
<br /> The minutes of the meeting of AuL~ast 2~, 1~], ~ere read and approved.
<br />
<br /> The City Manager reported on the study ~r3de for the annexation of the Univ~r..~ity Area,
<br />lying east of the east City Limits on Chicago Avenue, with an eastern boundary at the edge of 2he foot-
<br />hills, a northeru boundary at the Cou ~y Line, and a southern boundary approxin~.~tely ~ara!].el to the
<br />Gage Canal, with no recommendation being ~mde at this time.

<br /> It was moved by Council~n Vet!s, seconded by Councilnmn Bennett, and duly carried, that
<br />
<br />in consideration of the reco~mnendation of the Cit~ [.~ana~er,' ~., the attend,~ce of Capt. E. T, Fagan of the
<br />
<br />Riverside Pclice Dep~-tment, at the Governor's Tra_.fi~ Safety Conference to be held in Sacra~.ento on
<br />October 1 and 2, i~B~ be, and the same is hereby approved, and an appropriation of a mnn not to exceed
<br />
<br />$100.00 as necessary expenses 'in connection therewith, is hereby approved and authorized.
<br /> This motion csa-ried by the following vote:

<br /> Ayes: Councilmen Bennett, Cha~aberlain, Coodspeed, O'Neill, Smutz and Voris.
<br />
<br /> Noes: None.
<br />
<br /> Absent: CounciLman Backstrand.
<br />
<br /> The City Manager reported, on the complaint from Ralph E. Mamu, relative to sewers at 4490
<br />and 4428 Jackson Street, stating that the Superintendent of Streets advises that the contractor has been
<br />working on these again, and that they will very soon be remedied.
<br />
<br /> It was moved by Counci]Jaan Goodspeed, ~econded by Council~n Chamberlain~ and duly carried,
<br />that in consideration of the reconm~ondation of the City ~4anager, the petition for the widening of Tenth
<br />Street, between Mo2'ket and Walnut Streets, be, and the same is hereby denied.: the property owners to be
<br />
<br />permitted to build to the property line consistent with the construction in the area.
<br /> This motion carried by the following vote:
<br />
<br /> Ayes: Councilmen Bormett, Ch~nnberlain~ Oood-~peed, O'Neill, Smutz and Voris.'
