MINUTES The Minutes of the Meeting of June 25, 1968, were approved as submitted. The Chair recognized the presence in the audience of John Kortz representing the La Sierra Chamber of Commerce andi Dr. Robert %weig representing the Arlington and Riverside Chambers of Commerce. P~ESOLUTIONS CHARTER AMENDmeNT - CANVASS OF ELECTION P. ETURNS Resolutmon No. 11040 of the City Council of the City of Riverside, California, Declaring the Result of the Canvass of Election Returns of the Special Municipal Election Held in~ Said City on June 4, 1968, was presented; wherein the pro- posed amendments to Sections 1300~ 1302~ 1304 and 1306 of Charter of the City of Riverside, were declared to have carried; and the titie having bean read~ and further reading waived by the unanimous consent of Councilmen present, was i adopted. COMMENDATION - BOBBY BONDS Resolution No. i1041 of the City Council of the City of Riverside, California, Commending Riverside's Own Bobby Bondsi for his Record-Shattering, Base-Loaded Home Run During His First Major League Game, was presented; and the title having been read, and further reading waived by the unanimous con- sent of Councilmen present, was adopted. MAYOR - U. S. CONFERENCE OF ~[~YORS REPORT At this point, the Mayor presented his written report on his attendance at the United States Conference of Mayors, held in Chicago on Jun~ 12 to 15, 1968, which report covered points of interest regarding items under discussion by the Cmty Counczl thms date, relatmng to gun controls, florins, and a proposed memorial for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in Atlanta, Georgia. MISCELLANEOUS COMMLINICATIONS AND ~EQUESTS Mr. Richard S. Fox appeared belora the City Council on behalf~ of his request for consideration of a passage of a gun regis- tration ordinance. Other interested persons, bo~h in favor of the proposed ordinance and those in opposition to such an ordinance, were given opportunity to be heard. Following a lengthy discussion, the City Council requested copies of the three Bills (~rown Bill, Shumaker Biii and Biddle Bill), that'are before the State Legislature and the Federal Legis- lature, plus copies of the existing laws governing fire arms in the State of California, and the City Council to discuss that matter at a later date; with the further informal re- quest that copies of the Chicago Gun Ordinance, the Sullivan Act and the San Francisco Ordinance also be secured for in- formation purposes. 54-1 Second Ail Ayes All Ayes Ali Ayes Second ~ ~ix,' ' All Ayes
