CLERK'S OFFICE TO ALL CITY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS At the request of the City Council, I have been requested to notify all City Boards and Commissions that their purview does not extend to code enforcement. As you are aware, the Riverside City Charter enumerates certain boards and commissions and vests those boards and commissions with certain powers and duties. The Riverside City Charter further vests the City Council with the authority to create additional advisory boards and commissions as are required in the judgment of the City Council. The powers and duties of each board and commission are specifically articulated in the Riverside City Charter and/or the Riverside Municipal Code. All boards and commissions are advisory to the City Council and may only exercise those powers and carry out those duties which are consistent with the provisions of the Charter and/or Municipal Code. Consequently, it is imperative that each board and commission exercise only those powers granted to them by the Charter and/or Riverside Municipal Code. It is also important to understand that the authority to enforce the Riverside Municipal Code and to take action in response to any violation thereof, is vested in the City Council and certain City Departments.
