1 RESOLUTION NO. 18428 <br /> 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, EXPRESSING SUPPORT OF THE <br /> 3 ALVORD UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT'S HEALTHY START <br /> PROGRAM PROPOSAL AND ITS GOALS. <br /> 4 <br /> 5 WHEREAS the Healthy Start Support Services for Children <br /> 6 Act ("Act") (Chapter 759, Statutes of 1991) was established by <br /> 7 State Senator Robert Presley in Senate Bill 620 to address the <br /> 8 needs of increasing numbers of California school children who are <br /> 9 struggling with multiple problems, including insufficient <br /> 10 community support; and <br /> 11 WHEREAS the Act established a grant program whereby the <br /> 12 Superintendent of Public Instruction would award grants to local <br /> 13 educational agencies or consortia for the costs of planning and <br /> 14 operating programs in qualifying schools that provide support <br /> 1S services to eligible pupils and their families; and <br /> 16 WHEREAS the program can offer assistance to parents and <br /> 17 family members as well as children by establishing systems for <br /> 18 integrated service delivery at or near four school sites in the <br /> 19 Alvord Unified School District; and <br /> 20 WHEREAS the Healthy Start Implementation Grant represents <br /> 21 significant collaborative efforts in the local community among <br /> 22 health and human service agencies, schools, the Alvord Unified <br /> 23 School District, the Riverside County Office of Education, <br /> 24 Riverside City and County governments, and other public and <br /> 25 private agencies; and <br /> 26 WHEREAS through a partnership these agencies can focus <br /> 27 their collective energy, expertise and resources on finding <br /> <br />Attorney's Office <br />Street <br />CA 92522 <br />782-5567 F:/WPDATA/RESk 94027401.
