Renewable generation served
44.16% or 83,920 MWh of Riverside's wholesale load. Coal generation served 18.96% or 36,018
MWh of the wholesale load. Nuclear energy covered 3.64% or 6,912 MWh, and internal natural
gas generation served 1.30% or 2,468 MWh of wholesale load in October. Hydro generation
represents 0.78% or 1,485 MWh of Riverside's wholesale load. Finally, the balance for October
was covered by Market Transactions, which represented 31.16% or 59,213 MWh. Riverside's
hydro and renewable resources utilization increased in October 2023 compared to October
2022. On the Other hand, the utilization of all other resources has decreased. This was partly
due to an excellent hydro year that extended into October, mild weather conditions, and market
conditions that displaced the need for natural gas generation.
Wholesale Resource Mix - August 2022 vs 2023
Energy
2022 2023
MWh MWh
Large Hydro 1,227 1,485 21.03%
Natural Gas 4,545 2,468 -45.69%
Nuclear 6,936 6,912 -0.35%
Coal 39,837 36,018 -9.59%
Market Transactions* 64,847 59,213 -8.69%
Renewables 73,361 83,920 14.39%
Wholesale Load (Vista) 190,752 190,016 -0.39%
2023
MWh
2022
MWh
■ Large Hydro ■ Natural Gas ■ Nuclear ■ Coal ■ Market Transactions* ■ Renewables
r
190,016 MWh
190,752 MWh
0
50,000
100,000 150,000
MWh/Month
* The Market Transaction categorycomprises bilateral power contracts and purchases(sales) from(to) the CAISO.
Daily & Monthly Load & Temperature Trends
200,000
250,000
Weather has a significant impact on electricity demand, especially the variable temperature.
Typically, as temperatures increase, electricity demand will also increase, and vice versa. The
charts below graphically extrapolate the correlation between weather and electricity demand.
October 2023 was warmer than the previous year, with average daily peak temperatures
consistently remaining around 85 degrees. Meanwhile, in October 2022, average daily peak
