It was not sent by any City official
or staff. Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Hello All,
I know there may be a few people that shouldn't be on this email but I included what I could find when searching the
correct person for the police department. Normally I would not complain and just let things slide but for some reason
this one really pissed me off.
I stayed at the Mission Inn the night of 11/14. I live in Orange County but had meetings in the Riverside area on the 14th
and early on the 15th so I decided to spend the night in the area. I love the historical area and the Mission Inn Hotel is
always a pleasure to stay at. The lights for the Festival of the Lights are a great event and being in construction I
understand the disturbance and inconvenience that are required to make this all happen. However the night of 11/14
the disturbance and way the disturbance was handled was, in my opinion, ridiculous.
I stayed in room 101 which is at the corner of Mission Inn Ave and Main Street. There was the normal traffic noise which
was fine, however at about 2:OOam I was woken up by a generator. Apparently a city contractor decided it was a good
idea to powerwash main street in the middle of the night. (attached is the video, watch it with sound and you will see
how loud it is. Incase the file was too big, I have also attached a drop box link to it). So now for my issues.
1. Mission Inn — I called the front desk to complain and enquire about it. They did nothing and were no help. From
a customer service aspect I would expect some action to be taken. Go check on the issue, contact the city, offer
to relocate me... Something. Instead the only response I got was its not us!
2. Police/City —Since the Mission Inn wouldn't do anything, I called the police. I asked for the police officer to call
me when he got there as there was no way I would be able to go back to bed with this noise. When the officer
did call I asked him if the powerwashing company had a variance from the city to work at these hours. He said
no. He said they were a city contractor power washing the walkways for the Festival of the lights. He told me
he asked them to move their truck to the other road (I assume University Ave) and they would do that once they
finished the area they were working on. I have to admit I lost it and had some choice words for the officer. Its
2:30 in the morning and they are in violation of the cities own ordinance. Was it because they are a city
contractor that they get to do what ever they want. In my opinion the officer should have shut down the
generator immediately, cited them and told them to leave. Seems like some favoritism was being played
because they were a city contractor. I'm sure if it was someone else the officer would have done something.
1
