OF BREA, CALIFORNIA FOR A FOUR-YEAR TERM WITH <br />AN OPTIONAL FIVE-YEAR EXTENSION FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT OF <br />$1,811,491.86 <br />ISSUE: <br />Consider approving an expenditure and issuance of Purchase Order to Trane U.S. Inc. of Brea, <br />California for air inlet chiller maintenance and as needed repairs at Riverside Energy Resource <br />Center for a four-year period with the option to extend for an additional five years in the amount <br />of $1,811,491.86. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />That the Board of Public Utilities: <br />1. Approve an expenditure and issuance of Purchase Order to Trane U.S. Inc. of Brea, <br />California for air inlet chiller maintenance and as needed repairs at Riverside Energy <br />Resource Center for a four-year period with the option to extend for an additional five years <br />in the amount of $1,811,491.86; and <br />2. Approve Work Order No. 2321932 in the amount of $1,001,625.78 (included in the total <br />purchase order in item (1) above) for the RERC air inlet chiller major overhaul project; and <br />3. Approve Work Order No. 2321933 in the amount of $240,924.10 (included in the total <br />purchase order above in item (1) above) for the RERC air inlet chiller controls upgrade <br />project. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Riverside Public Utilities owns and operates the Riverside Energy Resource Center (RERC). This <br />facility is comprised of four fast -start gas turbines (also referred to as gas units or units) that are <br />strategically located within the city limits and achieve maximum power output in less than 10 <br />minutes. RERC generates 195 megawatts of electricity and serves a critical role in meeting <br />customer demands during peak periods. <br />Each pair of turbines at RERC shares a 3,500 -ton air inlet chiller system. The chiller system for <br />RERC units 1 and 2 was installed in 2004 and the second system for RERC units 3 and 4 was <br />
