COMER AVENUE: SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS BETWEEN FOURTH STREET <br />AND SEVENTH STREET. WATKINS ROAD WHEELCHAIR RAMPS. AND DOWNTOWN <br />SIDEWALK REPAIR 2003/2004 AT TENTH STREET BETWEEN REDWOOD DRIVE AND <br />CEDAR STREET. CONTRACT AWARD <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br /> <br />This Federally funded Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) project will provide safety and <br />accessibility facilities at the following locations: <br /> <br />· Alley Improvements between Milton Street and Blenheim Street: The project will provide for paving the <br />existing dirt alley with asphalt concrete. <br /> <br />· Comer Avenue Sidewalk Improvemenjts between Fourth Street and Seventh Street: The project will <br />provide for the construction of missing sidewalk and driveways on both sides of Comer Avenue including <br />new construction or upgrade of nine wheelchair ramps. <br /> <br />· Watkins Road Wheelchair Ramps: This is part of the Accessible Pathway 2003/2004 project and will <br />provide for the construction of thirty two new wheelchair ramps at eleven intersections along Watkins <br />Road between Canyon Crest Drive and Mount Vernon Avenue. The Advisory Committee on Disability <br />Issues (ACODI) prioritized the work on Watkins Road. <br /> <br />· Downtown Sidewalk Repair 2003/2004 at Tenth Street between Redwood Drive and Cedar Street: The <br />project will provide for the repair of existing sidewalk and the construction of eight new wheelchair ramps <br />along Tenth Street. <br /> <br />Five bids were received for this project on March 3, 2004 (see attached list). The low bid of $279,701.00 was <br />submitted by Damon Construction Company and is 0.45% over the Engineer's estimate. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> <br />Sufficient funds are available to construct the project in the project account numbers 9222900-440120 for <br />the Alley Improvements (bid amount is $46,627.00), 9201500-440120 for Comer Avenue Sidewalk <br />Improvements (bid amount is $85,050.00), 9220800-440120 for Watkins Road Wheelchair Ramps (bid <br />amount is $97,860.00), and 9208700-4401.20 for Downtown Sidewalk Repair (bid amount is 50,164.00). <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES: <br /> <br />The Council may reject all bids and abandon the project. <br /> <br />19-1 <br />
