Good evening Riverside City Councilmembers and Mayor, My name is Kira Pegues, and I am speaking on behalf of Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest, who has participated actively through map creation with local students and community members and other organizations, and also participated through oral and written public comment, and attended at multiple redistricting meetings. We would like to offer our support to the already majority approved Map A4.A. Map A4.A maximizes the Voting Rights Act and includes four Latino Citizen Voting Age Population majority wards. We urge the council to support map A4.A and begin to offer the necessary educational resources to inform the community about their new wards and upcoming elections. We recommend that this information be disseminated in a variety of ways through several different platforms, including mailers, newsletters, social media, City of Riverside website, etc. These communications should also be provided in different languages to ensure equitable outreach within the community. Lastly, we continue to urge the Council to take into consideration the need for the City of Riverside to conduct future redistricting work through an independent redistricting commission.
