This is historic!
On behalf of my family, I respectfully request, once again, that you support the Ordinance on June 13, 2023 to
establish Draft Map A4A Mt. Rubidoux Edit — approved on May 23, 2023 by affirmative vote by a majority of
the City Council. This action was unprecedented in our city and we are proud!
Kudos and commendations to the Brown and Black Coalition for the extensive outreach they have conducted
throughout the city. These volunteer community leaders of color reached out via canvassing, phone calls and
texts, emails, and conversations with community members and groups. They invested countless hours to meet
with residents to discuss the proposed maps and the implications of the ward boundaries.
To be sure, the exemplary process was community driven regarding Communities of Interest Input — in
addition to gathering input from All Councilmembers, the demographers, City staff, City Attorney and various
community groups throughout Riverside.
Like the City Attorney noted on the Agenda Item 20 Report, the New Map A2.2 drops the four
Majority/Minority maps and does not fulfill the requirements under the Voting Rights Act. This would be
unfair.
The City Attorney also states Map b 1.2; did not consider any community of interest received since this process
did not meets the requirements established by the Fair Maps Act. Again, not fair.
Please support the Ordinance to establish Draft Map A4A Mt. Rubidoux Edit as our city's ward boundaries.
Thank You,
Frances J.
