Subject: Riverside Transmission Reliability Project — Support
Dear Mayor and Members of the Riverside City Council,
The Inland Empire Economic Partnership (IEEP) is strongly in support of the Riverside
Transmission Reliability Project (RTRP) and urge the City Council to move forward with
the project as approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). The RTRP
not only addresses the critical need for enhanced reliability and capacity in the Riverside
Public Utilities (RPU) system, but also aligns with California's stringent greenhouse gas
reduction and climate goals.
The IEEP is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to promoting economic development
in the Inland Region of Southern California, we work closely with business and government
leaders to make the region a great place to live, work, and invest. Continued investment in
infrastructure is crucial for the growth of our region.
California has been at the forefront of environmental stewardship and has set ambitious
targets to combat climate change. The RTRP plays a vital role in achieving these goals by
facilitating the integration of renewable energy resources and reducing greenhouse gas
emissions. By bringing RPU and its customers adequate transmission capacity, the project
enables the efficient and reliable delivery of clean energy, reducing our reliance on fossil
fuels, and decreasing carbon emissions.
As the demand for electricity continues to grow in the City of Riverside, it is imperative that
we have the infrastructure in place to support the integration of renewable energy sources and
continued level of service. The RTRP offers long-term system capacity for load growth,
ensuring that as we transition to a cleaner energy mix, we can effectively meet the increasing
power needs of our community without compromising reliability or environmental
sustainability.
Additionally, the RTRP's emphasis on system reliability enhances grid resilience, a critical
aspect of climate change adaptation. As extreme weather events become more frequent and
