Date: 5-23-23
Item No.: 33
Subject: FW: [External] Agenda Item 33 — Redistricting Reshape Riverside
From: Frances J. Vasquez <franceslvasquez@gmail.com>
Sent: Monday, May 22, 2023 12:15:35 PM
To: Perry, Jim <JPerry@riversideca.gov>; CityClerkMbx <City Clerk@ riversideca.gov>
Subject: [External] Agenda Item 33 — Redistricting Reshape Riverside
Honorable City Councilmember Jim Perry:
Thank you for a historic and fair redistricting process with your vote to approve the popular map last March 28,
2023. I respectfully request your support and VOTE for the people's map and finalize it going forward as a new
Ward map for the City of Riverside.
Please don't be swayed by the myopic rhetoric of the self-interested Councilmembers who can't accept the
people's choice.
Please see the article The Press -Enterprise published regarding the vote on March 28:
s://www.DressenterDrise.com/2023/03/29/riverside-oks-new-citv-council-ward-boundaries/
The Brown and Black Redistricting Alliance needs to be commended for their leadership and submission of
Map A4A on March 28. They worked diligently with the community to develop this fair-minded Ward Map.
The Alliance consists of over 21 signatories organizations and community leaders active in this redistricting
cycle. The alliance is arguably the most effective group in this redistricting process.
• Recognizes that our city is composed of a Latino Majority with 56.3% of the population.
• This map respects that there are 4 Majority wards
• The Wards are equal in population
• This map has a total deviation of 6.5% which is under the criteria of 10%
• This map respects the divisions of neighborhoods and communities of interest
• 17 neighborhoods are together; this is at the request of the Community Members who are asking
CITY COUNCIL for better representation.
My family and I have lived in our Arlington residence for over 50 years — where I developed a neighborhood
watch group. We staunchly support the map approved by the Council on March 28 because it best represents
our communities of interests. Thank you.
Frances J.
