After 46 years of use, it <br />has been deemed obsolete by curren~ City standards. Based on this determination, the Fire Department <br />requested permission to construct a nett fire station on a new site which will relocate the facility closer to the <br />center of its response radius and also closer to the Riverside Municipal Airport. The City Council approved the <br />issuance of a Request for Proposals to Isolicit a professional services agreement for design services with an <br />architectural firm. An RFP was issued !in June of 2002. On August 13, 2002 the City Council approved the <br />retention of TBP Architects to complelll the design and to provide all necessary plans and specifications to <br />publicly bid the construction of a new Airport Fire Station. . <br />I <br />! <br />As a part of the original approvals by City Council, permission was also given to research and negotiate for the <br />new site for the fire station. The site pu~chased to complete the construction of the new Airport Fire Station is <br />located at the comer of Arlington and Hillside Avenues. Plans were submitted to the Building and Safety <br />Division of the Planning Department in Jiwgust of 2003. Upon approval ofthe plans, the City was provided with <br />a bid package that consisted of a written specification in excess of 300 pages and a detailed 63-page set of <br />construction plans. : <br />I <br />General Services, Building Services Ditision assembled the bid specifications and drawings and invitations for <br />bid for the new construction were issfed on February 11, 2004. On March 10, 2004, six (6) bids were <br />received. Shook Building Systems, Inc" of Mira Loma, Califomia was the lowest responsive bidder with a lump <br />sum bid of $2,460,000.00. The bids were competitive and staff recommends awarding the contract to Shook <br />Building Systems, Inc. : <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> <br />I <br />Funds are available in account numbe~ 9118040-463400, 3510000-470020 and in Project Number 07700- <br />Measure "G" - Fire Bond to complete the construction of the new Airport Fire Station Number 5. <br />I <br /> <br />ALTERNATNES: <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />1. Reject all bids, reduce the sco~e of the worK to reduce the overall cost of the project and re-bid the <br />pr~ect ! <br /> <br />I <br />2.
