I am doing public comment Agenda Item #2 regarding Riverside city redistricting and
wanted to share my community of interests. Our organization has done extensive work in the City of
Riverside. The Fair and Inclusive Redistricting for Municipalities and Political Subdivisions Act (FAIR
MAPS Act), requires the city to comply with the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA), and, to the
extent practicable, keep communities of interest together
We would like all redistricting workshops and public hearings to be held after 6:00 p.m. and that there
will be Spanish translation materials and interpreters. Below is our city wide/neighborhood
Community of Interests.
Downtown Riverside Communities of Interest
Downtown residents have worked together on affordable housing and North Side Specific Plan for community driven
housing projects and against the development of more warehouses. We work to support mixed use housing and
commercial for more locally owned small businesses. We mainly consist of working class residents and with the majority
Latino and 2nd minority being African American. A majority of Downtown Residents are primarily English speakers and
many of us are also fluent in Spanish. Our community is heavily impacted by homelessness. Many of the long time
working class residents are being priced out of our community. We do have some middle class areas near Mt. Rubidoux.
Our common landmarks are Fairmont Park and Mt Rubidoux. We enjoy the summer concerns and community events in
Fairmount Park. Our other neighboring communities are the Wood streets and Riverside community college
campus. The Wood Streets are heavy RCC staff and retired Seniors.
Thank you for your time
Hr
Folk Singer 1 Musician 1 Artist 1 Organizer
951-505-5424
1
cc Mayor
City Council
City Manager
City Attorney
ACMs
