<br />SUBJECT: BID NO. RPU-7915 FOR THE STREETLIGHT REPLACEMENT PROJECT,
<br />PHASE 4, TO COMET ELECTRIC, INC. OF CHATSWORTH, CALIFORNIA IN
<br />THE AMOUNT OF $4,953,008; CONTRACT CONTINGENCY OF 10% IN THE
<br />AMOUNT OF $495,301; WORK ORDER NO. 1904073 FOR A TOTAL OF
<br />$5,600,000
<br />ISSUES:
<br />Consider awarding Bid No. RPU-7915 for the Streetlight Replacement Project, Phase 4, to Comet
<br />Electric, Inc., of Chatsworth, California, in the amount of $4,953,008; approve a contract
<br />contingency of 10% in the amount of $495,301; and approve the capital expenditure for Work
<br />Order No. 1904073 in the amount of $5,600,000.
<br />RECOMMENDATIONS:
<br />That the Board of Public Utilities:
<br />1. Award Bid No. RPU-7915 for the Streetlight Replacement Project, Phase 4, to Comet
<br />Electric, Inc., of Chatsworth, California, in the amount of $4,953,008;
<br />
<br />2. Approve a contract contingency of 10% in the amount of $495,301;
<br />
<br />3. Approve the capital expenditure for Work Order No. 1904073 in the amount of $5,600,000
<br />which includes all design, construction, construction support, contract administration,
<br />inspection and construction change order authority costs for the Streetlight Replacement
<br />Project, Phase 4; and
<br />
<br />4. Authorize the City Manager, or designee, to execute any documents necessary to
<br />effectuate the project described herein, as well as the ability to make minor non-substantive
<br />changes in alignment with all purchasing policies.
<br />BACKGROUND:
<br />On October 18, 2013, the Board of Public Utilities (Board) approved Work Order No. 0809099
<br />and Work Order No. 0809101, for a total amount of $1,909,600 for the design and construction,
<br />respectively, of the Wood Streets Streetlight Replacement Project, Phase 1. The project included
<br />the installation of 205 new concrete streetlight standards replacing the century old streetlight
<br />system in the area. The new streetlight standards used for the project are replicas of the original
