<br /> <br /> RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: JULY 25, 2022 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: SAN BERNARDINO VALLEY MUNICIPAL WATER <br />SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS ACROSS THE UPPER SANTA ANA RIVER <br />WATERSHED <br />ISSUE: <br />Consider receiving a presentation from the San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District about <br />their sustainability efforts across the Upper Santa Ana River Watershed. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />That the Board of Public Utilities receive and file a presentation from the San Bernardino Valley <br />Municipal Water District about their sustainability efforts across the Upper Santa Ana River <br />Watershed. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District (Valley District) was formed in 1954 as a regional <br />agency to plan long-range water supply for the San Bernardino Valley. Valley District imports <br />water through participation in the State Water Project (SWP) and manages groundwater storage <br />within their 353 square-mile service area within southwestern San Bernardino County. Valley <br />District is the fifth largest of the 29 State Water Contractors that receive water from the SWP, with <br />an annual entitlement to SWP water at 102,600 acre-feet. Valley <br />a population of about 698,000 and includes the communities of San Bernardino, Colton, Loma <br />Linda, Redlands, Rialto, Bloomington, Highland, East Highland, Mentone, Grand Terrace, and <br />Yucaipa. In addition, Valley District serves as a court-appointed Watermaster representing the <br />San Bernardino County entities in the 1969 Santa Ana River Judgment and Western-San <br />Bernardino Judgment, and is one of five members of the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority <br />(SAWPA). <br />DISCUSSION: <br />Through this presentation, Valley District will describe the efforts it has undertaken to ensure that <br />its service area and the Upper Santa Ana River Watershed continue to have access to a reliable <br />water supply and that the health of the watershed continues to remain resilient and sustainable <br />into the future.
