Council Memorandum · Page I <br /> <br />People Serving <br />People <br /> <br /> CITY OF RIVERSIDE <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />Riverside <br /> <br />1998 <br /> <br />HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: March 16, 2004 <br /> <br /> ITEM NO: 28 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAM-¢~ <br /> <br />BACKGROUND: <br /> <br />The Riverside Community College District Customized Solutions for Business and Industry Division is <br />one of the educational providers currently providing development and training programs for city <br />employees. The Human Resources Department Training Division has worked with staff and <br />professional trainers of Customized Solutions and Business to develop and customize <br />supervisory/management, skill and professional development programs that maintain and improve the <br />skills and abilities of City employees. The programs they have presented have been consistently <br />evaluated by employees as being excellent or good. <br /> <br />Currently, the City has a purchase order in the amount of $24,650 with Riverside Community College <br />Distdct to provide city-wide training at a training rate of $750 per workshop (half day) or $1,450 per day <br />(for two workshops). This rate is significantly lower than rates from many other training providers where <br />customization of programs is desired. The Human Resources Department proposes increasing the <br />purchase order by $73,300 and amending the Agreement up to a total of $97,950. This amount would <br />cover workshops already conducted as well as future workshops through the remainder of the fiscal <br />year. <br /> <br />FISCALIMPACT: <br /> <br />Funds are available in the current budget for training. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES: <br /> <br />Not contract with Riverside Community College District. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br /> <br />That the City Council: <br /> <br />Approve an amendment to the Agreement for Training Services with Riverside Community College <br />District increasing the amount payable for training services by $73,300, for an amount not to exceed <br />$97,950; and <br /> <br />2. Authorize the City Manager or his designee to execute the Amendment to the Agreement. <br /> <br />28-1 <br /> <br /> <br />
