Council Memorandum · Page I

People Serving
People

CITY OF RIVERSIDE

CITY COUNCIL MEMORANDUM

Riverside

1998

HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: March 16, 2004

ITEM NO: 28

SUBJECT: CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAM-¢~

BACKGROUND:

The Riverside Community College District Customized Solutions for Business and Industry Division is
one of the educational providers currently providing development and training programs for city
employees. The Human Resources Department Training Division has worked with staff and
professional trainers of Customized Solutions and Business to develop and customize
supervisory/management, skill and professional development programs that maintain and improve the
skills and abilities of City employees. The programs they have presented have been consistently
evaluated by employees as being excellent or good.

Currently, the City has a purchase order in the amount of $24,650 with Riverside Community College
Distdct to provide city-wide training at a training rate of $750 per workshop (half day) or $1,450 per day
(for two workshops). This rate is significantly lower than rates from many other training providers where
customization of programs is desired. The Human Resources Department proposes increasing the
purchase order by $73,300 and amending the Agreement up to a total of $97,950. This amount would
cover workshops already conducted as well as future workshops through the remainder of the fiscal
year.

FISCALIMPACT:

Funds are available in the current budget for training.

ALTERNATIVES:

Not contract with Riverside Community College District.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

That the City Council:

Approve an amendment to the Agreement for Training Services with Riverside Community College
District increasing the amount payable for training services by $73,300, for an amount not to exceed
$97,950; and

2. Authorize the City Manager or his designee to execute the Amendment to the Agreement.

28-1
